REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

MINUTES

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Allen welcomed everyone to the meeting of the Resaca City Council.

 

INVOCATION

Councilman Todd Rutledge lead the meeting in prayer.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Allen led the council meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag.

MINUTES

Mayor Allen ask for a motion to waive the reading of the minutes from the June 14th meeting Councilman Barton made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes. Councilman Rutledge seconded the motion. All in favor, the motion passed. Mayor Allen ask for a motion to adopt the minutes from June 14th meeting. Councilman Rutledge made a motion to adopt the minutes. Councilman Barton seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed. Mayor Allen asked for a motion to waive the reading of the minutes from the July 7th Special Called Meeting. Councilwoman Adams made the motion to waive the reading of the minutes. Councilman Barton seconded the motion. Mayor Allen ask for a motion to adopt the minutes from the July 7th meeting. Councilman Barton made the motion to adopt the minutes. Councilman Rutledge seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed.

NEW BUSINESS

 Vote on Amended 2015-2016 Budget

The Mayor and Council reviewed a copy of the amended budget for 2015-2016. Councilman Barton made the motion to accept the amended budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 as prepared by RM Dobbs and Company. Councilwoman Adams seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed.

Employee Raises

Councilman Barton made the motion the give pay raises to Clerk, Kelly Shaw and Public Works, Randy Wheat. Clerks salary is raised to 15.00 per hour and Public Works is raised to 12.00 per hour as is in the budget. Councilman Rutledge seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed.

UPDATES

 2016-2017 Budget

Councilman Barton made the motion to approve the 2016-2017 Budget. Councilman Wyatt seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed.

Audit

Clerk gave update on preparing for Audit. It is almost ready to send to Mr. Vance, our auditor.

 Lawn Care Contract

A letter was sent out last week notifying JT Lawn Care that we will not be renewing the contract when it expires on August 21, 2016.

Surveys

Mayor Allen gave an update on North Georgia Surveyors work. They have completed Walker Street and the next one in line will be Dixie Street.

Sewer Update – Nothing to report

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

ROAD AND STREETS

Councilman Wyatt is going to check all the signs inside city and see if any need replacing. Randy will be getting the pressure washer out in the upcoming weeks and clean the signs.

LIGHTS

Councilwoman Adams gave an update on replacing the lights and 2 new installations. The electric company is waiving the installation fee. She has obtained a list of all lights inside the city limits. She reported the 3 lights that are out but they are not replaced yet. She also talked to DOT about the ditch at Taylors Ridge and it will be cleaned out when their truck is back in service.

RECREATION

Councilman Rutledge gave the recreation report. Report is attached. Mayor ask Councilman Rutledge if he could get in touch with the County Rec Department to replace the worn out signs around the ball fields.

MAINTENANCE REPORT

Councilman Barton ask Councilman Wyatt if he had been able to get in touch with someone about the field here on Walker Street behind the Longs residence. The attorneys in charge of that property advised that they cannot help him at this time.

SHERIFF’S REPORT

Lt. Jimmy Shaw gave the report. The report is attached to minutes.

FROM THE FLOOR

Elaine Greeson ask about getting with Randy Wheat and setting up a neighborhood watch program. She will get with him next week and discuss what they can do to get a program started. Councilwoman Adams advised that they started the program in her neighborhood about 2 years ago and it has worked out great. She advised that if you meet the criteria you can get neighborhood watch signs.

Councilman Wyatt also asked about discussing at the next work session the possibility of helping a couple families out in the town that are having financial difficulties due to illness.

Mayor Allen ask for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Councilman Barton made the motion to close the meeting. Councilman Wyatt seconded the motion.  All in favor.
