REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

MINUTES

PRESENT:           Samuel Allen, Mayor

Justin Barton, Councilman

Nathan Wyatt, Councilman

Todd Rutledge, Councilman

Kelly Thurman – Ordinance Officer

 

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Allen welcomed everyone to the meeting of the Resaca City Council.

 

INVOCATION

Mr. Willard Jordan opened the meeting with prayer.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Allen led the council meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag.

 

MINUTES

Mayor ask for a motion to waive the reading of the minutes from the February 9th  meeting Councilman Barton made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes. Councilman Rutledge seconded the motion. All in favor, the motion passed. Mayor Allen ask for a motion to approve the minutes from February 9th meeting. Councilman Barton made the motion to accept the minutes. Councilman Wyatt seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 Ken Padgett – Battlefield of Resaca Historic Site

Mr. Padgett brief overview on the Historic Site Park that will be opening on May 13, 2016 at 3pm. They will be sending the Mayor and Council an invitation in a couple of weeks. The Park covers 540 acres with 6 miles of walking trails, a picnic pavilion and 3 parks. He offered to escort the Council through the park prior to its opening in May.

Statewide Mutual Aid Assistance Agreement – EMA Director Richard Cooper

EMA Director Richard Cooper gave a brief summary on what the agreement covers for the Town of Resaca in the event of an emergency disaster and how EMA would be able to handle the request for assistance, resources and funding if the Town needed it.

 

VOTE TO HAVE GORDON COUNTY ROAD DEPT FIX THE TILE ON DIXIE STREET

Councilman Wyatt has a letter from Barry Hice stating that Gordon County Road Department will fix the tile on Dixie Street for $1500.00 and patch and pave it back. Councilman Wyatt made the move to have the County do the work. Councilman Rutledge seconded the move. All in favor. The motion passed.

Sheriff’s Report

Lt. Jack Jenkins gave the report. The report is attached to minutes.

 

LIGHTS

No problems.

 

RECREATION

Councilman Rutledge gave the recreation report. Report is attached.

 

MAINTENANCE REPORT

It was decided that more discussion needed on which pressure washer should be purchased.

 

PURPLE HEART MEMORIAL – Councilman Nathan Wyatt

Councilman Wyatt presented the signs that Resaca has purchased declaring Resaca a Purple Heart City. They will be placed at each city limits sign. Councilman Wyatt gave a brief summary of the Purple Heart and when Resaca signed the proclamation on November 11, 2014 to become a purple Heart City. He introduced each veteran in attendance that has received a Purple Heart for Service and every other veteran that was in attendance at tonight’s meeting. The Calhoun Times was present to take pictures of the Mayor and Council with the Veterans.

Mayor Allen asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Councilman Barton made a motion to close the meeting. Councilman Wyatt seconded the motion. All in favor. The motion passed.
